What is a Front-Page Article?

frontpage

A front-page article is a major news story that usually appears on the first page of a newspaper or magazine. It teases the story that is featured on the rest of the edition, and often gives a summary of the story to be found inside.

In 2014, three Jane Does who were sex trafficked as minors sued Backpage alleging that its advertising of adult services allowed their traffickers to place ads promising sex with them. A federal court ruled that Backpage’s actions in connection with these ads were “traditional publisher functions” and thus shielded under CDA Section 230.

This ruling marks the third time that a federal court has struck down state laws trying to legislate Backpage out of existence, finding them hopelessly vague and overbroad under Section 230 and chilling protected speech.
