From global business to global diplomacy, the world faces complex challenges that transcend national borders and can’t be solved by any one country acting alone. With its multidisciplinary training in anthropology, history, political science and economics, our major in global affairs prepares you to understand these issues and to take action.
You’ll gain skills that employers across industries value, like critical thinking and communication. Through hands-on research and international simulations, you’ll develop the skills to analyze global problems from different perspectives and come up with thoughtful solutions. You’ll also become comfortable articulating big ideas clearly and confidently, whether in front of a classroom or a boardroom.
The globalization of economies, societies and cultures has profoundly shaped the contemporary world, making understanding international relations increasingly important for all peoples. In this major, you’ll explore topics like sustainable development, human rights, international law and peace-building. You’ll learn to think and work across disciplines, cultures and time periods—essential for the global leadership that today’s employers seek.
The program offers unique opportunities to experience the work of a global leader firsthand, from participating in Model United Nations to studying abroad, or through internships or co-ops. You’ll graduate with the knowledge and practical experience needed to launch a career in government, nonprofit organizations or businesses working in the field of global policy, international business or aid and development. In their senior year, students complete a capstone project in either a seminar of their choosing or in GLBL 4500, the global affairs senior essay course.
